The Power of Microgreens.
What is a microgreen?
These are sprouting vegetable greens that are full of concentrated nutrients.
So are they just a sprout or are they considered a baby plant?
Well I guess they fall in the middle but don’t be fooled these are power packed with nutrients we all can use! When they get to be about 1 to 3 inches tall and they are about 7 to 14 days old it is time to harvest, as this is when they are jammed pack with all the yummy nutrients we need.
How hard is this to do?
Well it is real simple as you can grow these on your counter or on your patio. A good thing to consider is don’t grow too many at a time or space out plantings. I like to keep 2 to 3 different flats going spacing out the planting so I have continuous availability. There are kits out there but it is not necessary and you can use any planter or other container to do this.
What kind do I plant?
Well my favorite micro-greens are these:
Broccoli, fennel, arugula, kale(red), parsley, dill, beets, mint, cilantro, radish, carrots, basil, red cabbage, celery, chives and chia, but some others to consider are sunflower, chard, mustard greens to name a few.
How do I serve them?
Be creative on a salad, on your fish dish or maybe your breakfast omelet. How about your smoothie?. You can dry them and make a tea. Bring out your inner chef and be creative.
In a time where going out maybe an issue, you can, nourish your family with this simple powerful source of nutrients.
